This is my new profile picture in many places, I needed a professional looking profile image for places like the Hispanicize conference for example and it had been a while since I didn’t take a photo for me. I want to share it here because I am very proud of it, it’s a self portrait and I want to show you how I did it, I still feel there is room for improvement, it wasn’t that easy but it was fun!
I first thought of the place I could take it, I know this area of the building where I live that gets pretty light in the afternoon when the sun is going down, I discovered it one day taking this picture I shared before.
Light is KEY for any photo so once I had that down I thought about my wardrobe, not so hard really, I just grabbed one of my comfortable blouses at the moment which and a pretty necklace, which happened to be the one I made at Alt! I needed to be comfortable and confident and those 2 things + a good hair day did it (Last point is a very very important one!!) The other key element was the remote.

The hard part for me is finding something for the camera to focus, specially in a place with big surroundings behind me like this one plus I wanted the background to be very blurry. So I took the high chair out which the highest standing thing I have at home and it helped!
Once I started I tried many positions, took many many shots and then came up and looked at them. I tried to make different kind of smiles and also adjust light and position of the camera, trial and error, and error and trial and error…

At the end I decided to have fun with poses and let loose! Go and take self portraits, it’s fun!

A la final decidí hacer caras cómicas y divertirme! Anímate a tomarte autorretratos, es muy chévere!

April 9, 2012 at 2:10 pmGorgeous! Looks like fun! My "about me" picture is a self portrait too, and it was a similar process; take a few, go look at them, adjust, take a few more, adjust, till you get it right. This is a great behind the scenes look at how you got your beautiful new picture!
