The future this time is called sOccket and it's just a soccer ball, but it also generates
and stores electricity via physical play! Can you believe it? I don't know if I'm exaggerating here but I'm really really amazed!Watch this video and see for yourself how it works:
See? ... And for those who can't watch the video at the moment, it shows how after 15 minutes of play it can power up a light for up to 3 hours. It has a plug that you can connect to. How cool is that?
So, State Farm partnered with sOccket and has a program called Play Today, Illuminate Tomorrow which allows participants of the Soccer Gold Cup 2011 the opportunity to generate energy, while playing with the prototype balls, for their participating Latin American Gold Cup country of choice.
This Gold Cup just finished this past Saturday and I must confess I had no idea that it was going on until I heard about his ball! BUT, I would have loved to see it in action plus Derek and Adrian would have loved to go to the soccer game, it was in L.A.!!!
Being born and raised in Venezuela I know how much the electricity is needed in our country, it is not something that we take for granted, we always have candles, matched, lighters around cause at least one a month there was no electricity for several hours at home. And this program is such a great way to help.
They even have more ways to donate energy, here are some options that you and anybody can do from home:
- On the State Farm latino Facebook page watch and ‘like’ the videos of Futbol Freestylers to add one minute of light to the represented country
- On the State Farm latino Facebook page play the featured game: Play & Illuminate, where you can play and choose the country you wish to send sOccket™ energy balls.
- Download a new iPhone app, Kick4ACause, which is a virtual soccer game you can play to help donate sOcckets.
What do you think? Isn't this the future?
To help bring awareness to this program State Farm is offering to giveaway a $100 gift card to Tickemaster! Then you can go see more soccer games!
Here is what you need to do to enter the Giveaway:

- E S P A Ñ O L -

I am and am not surprised by this program.
ReplyDeleteA few months ago I saw an story on a local news program about how energy could be generated in a shopping center just with the vibrations caused by people walking around the shopping center. Take that same idea to another level and a ball with generate energy. Its wonderful, isn't it. We can make a difference by just living our normal lives and creating massive amounts of energy.
