DIY Piggy Banks for Kids to make!

Que Rica Vida asked me to make a project with the kids for the new year, about recycling and saving money, so that’s how these DIY piggy banks were born! I LOVE the outcome. They are very easy to make and they look fun and colorful.

It is good to always reuse containers and materials that we no longer use in the house in any other way, that way the family learns that everything does not have to be new and that it can be saved while having fun creating something useful.

With the beginning of the new year, we welcome a new stage in which we can re-instill children about saving. And what else better than a piggy bank for children to save? A piggy bank made by themselves!

These piggy banks are made with cans that were leftover in the house and that come with a plastic lid to open a slot in the top part more easily. Save those paper cuttings that are used for school activities even if they are small, they will help you wrap the cans and put faces to the piggy banks!

DIY PIGGY BANKS

Supplies:

Used cans or containers with plastic lid (here we use coffee and cake glaze)
Scrapbooking or wrapping paper or construction paper scraps (they may have a simple pattern)
Construction paper or colorful paper or cardboard scraps (without patterns)
Craft knife
Scissors
White glue or glue stick
Double-sided tape

Instructions:

Clean the containers well.
Flip the lid and carefully cut a slot with the craft knife, you can use a kitchen cutting board for this.
Cut out different figures from the construction cardboard for the faces; think of mouths, eyes, noses. Any figure can be used!
Measure the can and cut the scrapbooking paper from the same height, turn over the whole can stick it to the can with double-sided tape in the back where it joins. If it does not reach the whole can, cut another bit and stick it on top.
Once the paper background is stuck in the can, begin to glue the face figures one by one, use your imagination and let the children freely create their faces, guide them when necessary (depending on age). Do not fill the piggy bank!
Place the lid on the piggy bank. And ready! Start saving!

TIPS:

You can use open large and small holes to make the circles easier.
Use zig-zag or wavy scissors to cut different and fun shapes.
Give an example of facing the children and many options of figurines for them alone put to run that imagination.
This craft is for all ages. Even adults will have fun making faces!
There is enough space on the other side to make 2 faces in each piggy bank.

MANUALIDAD PARA HACER ALCANCÍAS

Qué Rica Vida me pidió que hiciera un proyecto con los niños para el nuevo año, sobre el reciclaje y de ahorrar dinero, entonces nacieron estas alcancías! Me encantó el resultado. Son muy fáciles de hacer y se ven lindas y coloridas.

Es bueno siempre reutilizar envases y materiales que ya no usamos en la casa de alguna otra manera, así la familia aprende a que no todo tiene que ser nuevo y a que se puede ahorrar al mismo tiempo que divertirse creando algo útil.

Con el inicio del año comenzamos una nueva etapa en la que se puede re-inculcar a los niños acerca del ahorro. ¿Y que otra cosa mejor que una alcancía para que los niños ahorren? Una alcancía hecha por ellos mismos!

Estas alcancías están hechas con latas que sobraron en la casa y que traen una tapa de plástico para abrirles una ranura en la parte de arriba más facilmente. Guarda esos recortes de papeles que se usan para actividades escolares aunque sean chiquitos, ¡Te ayudarán a forrar las latas y a ponerle caras a las alcancías!

MANUALIDAD PARA HACER ALCANCÍAS

Materiales

Latas de o envases usados con tapa de plástico (aquí usamos de café y de glaseado de pasteles)
Retazos de papeles de scrapbooking o de envolver regalos o de cartulina de construcción (pueden tener un estampado sencillo)
Retazos de cartulina de construcción o de papeles unicolores (sin estampado)
Una cuchilla de manualidades
Tijeras
Pega blanca o de barrita
Teipe doble faz

Instrucciones

Limpia bien los envases.
Voltea la tapa y cuidadosamente córtale una ranura con la cuchilla, puedes usar una tabla de madera de la cocina para esto.
Corta diferentes figuritas de las cartulinas de construcción para las hacer las caras ; piensa en bocas, ojos, narices. ¡Cualquier figura se puede usar!
Mide la lata y corta el papel de scrapbooking del mismo alto y que le dé la vuelta a toda la lata, pégalo a la lata con teipe en la parte de atrás donde se une. Si no te alcanza, corta otro pedacito y pégalo encima.
Una vez que el fondo de papel está pegado en la lata comienza a pegar una por una las figuras de la cara, usa tu imaginación y deja libremente a los niños crear sus caras, guíalos cuando sea necesario (dependiendo de la edad) ¡Para que no llenen la alcancía de recortes!
Coloca la tapa a la alcancía. ¡Y listo! ¡A comenzar a ahorrar!

TIPS:

Puedes usar abre huecos grandes y chiquitos para hacer los círculos más fácilmente.
Usa también tijeras de piquito (con figuras) para cortar formas diferentes y divertidas.
Dales un ejemplo de cara a los niños y muchas opciones de figuritas para que ellos solitos pongan a correr esa imaginación.
Esta manualidad es para todas las edades. ¡Hasta los adultos se divertirán haciendo caras!
Queda suficiente espacio por el otro lado para hacer 2 caras en cada alcancía.
