2 Activities to Bond with Faraway Family

The busy busy time of the year is here! We are back to all school classes and but that doesn’t mean there is no time to do family activities to reconnect and bond even with the faraway family.

The kids love it when they get to do crafts at home and this time they were even more excited because even though most of our family isn’t here, they got to interact with them and learn more about them using the phone, email or chat with my smartphone and the great Straight Talk service.

How did we bond with the family so faraway?

This is where it got fun! Our family is big and we are all here and there living in different countries, a lot of us are in the USA but in different states, some of them in Venezuela and some in other countries. Thankfully we can easily communicate with all of them wherever we are using the smartphone so we asked them a couple of questions about each of them.

The questions were simple but personal, like what’s your favorite color? What’s your favorite food or favorite drink? What do you do for fun? What’s your favorite hobby? We also asked for pictures or downloaded them from social media.

The cool thing is that it doesn’t really matter where we are because with the Smartphone and the great data coverage we get from Straight Talk, we can chat or email when we need it almost anywhere with great speed!

So after we had the answers we were ready to get to work on the crafts and activities! These crafts are simple. Here are the instructions for each:

Photo Frames with Popsicle Sticks and Washi Tape

These frames can be to keep for yourself or to send to your family. Make them with their favorite colors and add charms depending on their favorite things or hobbies.


Supplies:

• Popsicle Sticks
• Washi tape
• Transparent tape
• Small photos
• Craft glue
• Charms or found trinkets
• Magnets

DIY Family Bingo

This takes a little time to put together, but it’s so worth it! I highly recommend it, all families should have one and play it!!

Supplies:

• Cardboard
• Craft knife or scissors
• Printer and/or photocopier
• Crayons
• Paper

So many ways to bond and learn! 

-I loved loved loved watching the kids learn about others members of the family that aren’t close by.

-Just even by looking at their pictures they started asking about them.

-The fact that they started to know some of the family members’ personal preferences even though it might be a small thing, it’s something that makes them closer to them.

-Learning about everybody while having tons of fun makes it priceless for all!

Ya estamos en la época del año en que nos ocupamos con muchísimas cosas. Ya de regreso a todas las actividades escolares, las actividades después del colegio y todo lo que involucra. Pero eso no significa que no haya tiempo para hacer actividades juntos en familia que nos permitan reconectar e incluso con nuestra familia que vive lejos.

A los niños les encanta cuando hacen manualidades en la casa y esta vez se emocionaron más porque a pesar de que la mayoría de nuestra familia no está aquí, pudieron interactuar con ellos y aprender más acerca de cada uno usando el teléfono, correo electrónico o chat con mi teléfono inteligente y el gran servicio Straight Talk.

¿Pero cómo conectamos con la familia que está lejos?

¡Aquí es donde se puso divertido! Nuestra familia es grande y todos regados por todos lados, muchos de nosotros estamos aquí en los EE.UU., pero en diferentes estados, algunos en Venezuela y algunos en otros países. Afortunadamente podemos comunicarnos fácilmente con todos ellos usando el smartphone, así que les hicimos un par de preguntas a cada uno de ellos.

Las preguntas fueron sencillas pero personales, como:  ¿Cuál es tu color favorito? ¿Cuál es tu comida favorita o bebida favorita? ¿Qué haces para divertirte? ¿Cuál es tu pasatiempo favorito? También pedimos fotos recientes o las bajamos de las redes sociales.

Lo bueno es que en realidad no importó donde estábamos porque con el smartphone y la gran cobertura de data (megas) que tenemos con Straight Talk pudimos chatear o mandar correo electrónico cuando lo necesitábamos en casi cualquier lugar y con buena velocidad.

Así que después de que teníamos todas las respuestas ya nos pusimos a preparar las actividades. Son bastante sencillas, aquí les doy el paso a paso:

Bingo Familiar – Hazlo tu misma

Este se tarda un poquito en hacer porque hay que recopilar bastantes fotos ¡pero vale la pena! Yo lo super recomiendo, todas las familias deberían tener uno y jugar!!

Materiales:

• Cartulina 
• Cuchilla o tijeras
• Impresora y/o fotocopiadora
• Crayones o lápices de colores
• Papel

Instrucciones:

1. Recopila fotos de los miembros de tu familia, la mayor cantidad posible, cuanto más mejor (al menos 30)! Consejo: Ve a la página de redes sociales con tu smartphone y elige ahí mismo, descárgarlas e imprímelas o imprímelas directamente desde tu teléfono si puedes.
2. Utiliza un software de edición de fotos para cortar las fotos en forma de cuadrado (Opcional: añade el color favorito de cada persona como contorno de cada foto).
3. Haz que los niños dibujen algunas de las cosas favoritas de cada uno de los miembros de la familia, escanea y hazlos cuadritos también en un programa de edición de fotos.
4. Descarga la plantilla del Bingo Familiar aquí.
5. Organiza las fotos y dibujitos con el software de edición de fotos en la plantilla proporcionada en diferentes formas por cada cartón de Bingo e imprime las tarjetas en la cartulina con las fotos o ve al paso 6.
6. Imprime todas las foticos cuadradas y dibujos en cartulina y recórtarlas como pequeñas tarjetas.
7. Imprime la plantilla de Bingo Familiar sobre cartulina.
8. Organiza y pega las fotos en cada cartón de Bingo, luego fotocopia el cartón para que quede ya hecho. Repite el proceso varias veces para que puedas obtener diferentes tableros.
9. Imprime cada foto un poco más grande para usar como se usan los “números” en el Bingo.

¡Muchas maneras de aprender y reconectar con la familia!

-A mi me fascinó ver como los niños aprendían un poquito de cada persona de la familia, sobretodo de los que no están cerca.

-Sólo al ver las fotos empezaron a preguntar más acerca de cada uno.

-El hecho de que se empezaron a conocer algunas de las preferencias personales de los miembros de la familia es algo que los hace más cercano a ellos aunque sea algo chiquito.

-Esta experiencia de aprender acerca de todos en la familia mientras se divierten no tiene precio!!
