I really like fiction, mostly suspense, and romantic comedy. Here are the fiction books I’ve read lately: 

I loved Gone Girl and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. She has these amazingly mean women in her stories LOL! But they keep me on the edge of my seat finishing those books quickly!

The Girl on the Train was excellent, super suspenseful, I could not stay away, I read this one super super fast.

While looking for more suspense I found Vanished by Joseph Finder, it’s fiction but very realistic, seems like tv show!! He has lots more books like this, maybe another day I’ll go back to them.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett, I saw the movie a while back but the audiobook, oh the audiobook!! It’s amazing and please listen to it in audiobook format because it has the best acting!

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, I heard about this book about 20 years ago and never got to read it, well I’m glad I did, it’s a great lesson taught in a cute and different way.

Non-fiction is harder for me to read but I’m getting more excited about it lately:

I just read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, super easy read, if you listen to the audiobook she reads it herself. It’s about creativity and what she believes is the process.

Following the same theme, my friend Lorraine from Viva Fifty recommended this book: How to fly a horse by Kevin Ashton which talks about creativity in so many levels setting some examples from history, it’s a longer read but I loved it so much I think I might need to buy it to have it as reference, I even got the hard copy from the library at the same time I was listening to the audiobook!

Smart Money Smart Kids by Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruze, this book I listened to before having the OverDrive app, I bought it directly from Dave Ramsey as soon as it went out and I think it’s amazing, super useful, it has real tips and ideas on how to teach your kids about money. They narrate it themselves and the best part is that you have the father and daughter experience.

Those are all my recommendations, for now, maybe by the end of the year I’ll have a lot more, yay! If you have any books you would like to recommend, let me know! I’m looking into reading more non-fiction right now.

GOODREADS

Another app that I think complements really well with OverDrive is Goodreads, I had my username in there for years but never did much with it and now I use it and go read what my friends are reading and their reviews they give each book so I get more ideas for what to read next.

I think that when you finish a good book, that’s the part that gets a little harder, what book should I read next? And Goodreads helps out. Go connect with me over there so we can each inspire each other with books!

MAGAZINES IN OVERDRIVE

One last thing about OverDrive you want to know is that you can also borrow magazines!!! Yay! This makes me so excited because I’m a magazine hoarder, I collect too many and I just subscribe to two but through the years if I buy some I won’t want to throw it away, so keeping it digital will help.

Not all the libraries will have this feature, in my case, it’s only available on the LA Library aaaand you get to download the magazine to the NOOK app (free) and keep it there forever! Unlike ebooks and audiobooks, magazines don’t expire!! I think this is a super well-kept secret. Of course, you won’t be able to find all the published magazines in the world available but they do have quite a good selection. Go check them out if you love magazines and thank me later!

RECOMENDACIONES DE LIBROS Y LA APP OVERDRIVE (CONTINUACIÓN)

Después de contarles todo sobre la aplicación OverDrive la semana pasada todavía me faltó recomendarles que algunos de los libros que he leído y otras cositas porque siempre es muy chévere compartir lo que a uno le gusta verdad?

A MI ME GUSTA MUCHO LA FICCIÓN, SOBRE TODO DE SUSPENSO Y LA COMEDIA ROMÁNTICA. AQUÍ ESTÁN LOS LIBROS DE FICCIÓN QUE HE LEÍDO ÚLTIMAMENTE: 

Me encantó Gone Girl y Sharp Objects por Gillian Flynn. Esta autora escribe siempreacerca de estas mujeres increíblemente malas en sus historias! Pero me mantienen al borde queriendo leer y terminarme todo el libro ya!

Los de no ficción son más difíciles para mí de leer pero últimamente me están emocionando más:

Siguiendo con el mismo tema, mi amiga Lorraine de Viva Fifty recomendó este libro: How to Fly a Horse por Kevin Ashton, que habla de la creatividad en tantos niveles dando ejemplos de creaciones en la historia. Es una lectura más larga pero me gustó tanto que creo que lo voy a  tener que comprar para tenerlo como referencia, incluso pedí el libro impreso en la biblioteca al mismo tiempo que estaba escuchando el libro en audio!

Smart Money Smart Kids de Dave Ramsey y Rachel Cruze, este libro lo escuché antes de tener la aplicación OverDrive, lo compré directamente de Dave Ramsey tan pronto como salió y creo que es increíble, super útil, tiene consejos e ideas reales sobre la manera de enseñar a tus hijos a manejar el dinero. En el libro en audio ellos mismos narran todo y la mejor parte es uno tiene la experiencia de padre e hija.

Estas son todas mis recomendaciones por ahora, tal vez a finales del año tendré muchas más, yei! Si tienen algún libro que quieren recomendar, cuéntenme! Ahorita estoy buscando leer algo de no ficción.

GOODREADS

Otra aplicación que me parece que complementa muy bien a OverDrive es Goodreads, tenía mi nombre de usuario allí desde hace años, pero nunca lo usé mucho y ahora la uso y veo lo que están leyendo mis amigos ahí y sus opiniones de cada libro así que encuentro más ideas de libros para leer.

Creo que cuando uno termina un buen libro, la parte que se pone un poco más difícil es saber, ¿qué libro debo leer a continuación? Y Goodreads lo ayuda a uno. Vayan y conecten conmigo allá para así inspirarnos mutuamente si?

REVISTAS EN OVERDRIVE

Una última cosa que les quiero contar acerca de OverDrive es que también pueden pedir prestadas revistas!!! Esto me emociona a mi muchísimo porque yo soy una acaparadora de revistas, colecciono muchas y eso que sólo estoy suscrita a dos, pero a través de los años voy guardando als que compro y no me gusta tirarlas a la basura, así que tenerlas digitales me ayuda.

No todas las bibliotecas tienen las revistas, en mi caso están sólo disponibles en la Biblioteca de Los Angeles y lo mejor de todo es que las descargas directo a la aplicación NOOK (que es gratis) y las puedes mantener allí para siempre. A diferencia de los libros electrónicos y de los libros en audio, las revistas no caducan!! Creo que este es un secreto super bien guardado. Por supuesto que no van a encontrar todas las revistas del mundo disponibles pero tienen una selección bastante buena. Vayan a verlas en su app y después me dan las gracias!
