I’ve always been up for adventures and I think rafting qualifies as a huge adventure! The fact that you can go family river rafting (yes, including the kids!!) is a great plus and it makes it accessible for me as a mom to be able to enjoy this kind of adventure with the kids.

Bakersfield is here in California, about 2 hours from Los Angeles. We had such an incredible time that I had to come and tell you all about it.

 

RIVER’S END RAFTING 

The place we went is called River’s End Rafting and to go there you have to make a reservation in advance beforehand so they can plan out the boats for the day.

When you make your reservation they send you a PDF with everything you need to know for your expedition but even though I read the files, I was so excited that I didn’t read all the specifics. It’s just not the same when you get there and you see with your own eyes and say: AHHHH, now I get what they said on the paper!

We drove to their “station” which is where you get prepared for rafting… But it’s not right by the river!  You first have to register there, listen to instructions, get assigned to a guide, get your life vest on and then they take the whole group plus equipment together in their bus to the river, it’s about 10 minutes away.

TAKING PICTURES WHILE RAFTING?

As a photographer, I wanted to bring at least my cell phone with me to take pictures but I forgot my waterproof pouch because everything you bring to the boat WILL get wet! Thankfully, they have a mini shop with lots of products that you might need, they really make it convenient!

I got myself this waterproof cell phone pouch which worked great, I did take tons of photos during rafting but guess what? They also offer a professional photo package during your adventure, all the pictures of me that you see in this post are the ones they took, you can buy them at the end of your trip for $40, they give them to you in the cutest USB drive! We HAD TO get them, I just love how they captured our emotions during the trip, it’s totally worth it!

FAMILY RIVER RAFTING FOR 6-YEAR-OLDS AND UP!

Before we got there, the kids were a little scared to go, especially Maya, but the minimum age limit is 6 years/old so I knew Maya would be ok, it really is very soft white water rafting. Each raft is led by a guide which makes the whole trip so fun because they teach you how to row, they entertain you and protect you!

The time we spent in the river was about an hour, we made one stop to get water out of the rafts and several stops to swim, it was so delicious and refreshing to swim! All of us held a paddle except Maya, she sat and enjoyed! When we finished, the bus comes and picks you up to go back to the station. Over there you can wash out and put on your dry clothes.

I arrived at the station with jean shorts and a shirt and I had my swimming suit underneath, but I took off my shirt and just had my swimming suit and shorts for rafting. I didn’t have a change of dry shorts so what I recommend is to take either just your swimming suit or clothes you want to get wet and a change of dry clothes in your car. You have to leave everything you will take in your car before going rafting but later you can just get it from your car and change there, bring towels in your car and don’t forget water shoes!

I have to say I highly recommend this adventure for the family, you MUST go there if you are looking for a summer family adventure in California! River’s End rafting was our first stop in our summer family trip, we also went camping at Sequoia which I will come back and show you too.

RAFTING PARA TODA LA FAMILIA EN BAKERSFIELD

¡A mi siempre me han encantado las aventuras y creo que el rafting califica como una gran aventura! ¿No? El hecho de que se pueda ir de rafting en familia (sí, ¡incluyendo a los niños chiquitos!) es una gran ventaja y hace que sea accesible para mí como mamá poder disfrutar de este tipo de aventuras con los niños.

Bakersfield está aquí en California, a unas 2 horas de Los Ángeles. Me super fascinó todo de cuando fuimos que tenía que venir a contarles todo.

RIVER’S END RAFTING EN BAKERSFIELD

El lugar al que fuimos se llama River’s End Rafting y para ir allí, hay que hacer una reservación con anticipación para que puedan planear los grupos de botes para el día.

Cuando haces la reservación, te envían un PDF con todo lo que necesitas saber para su expedición, pero aunque leí los todo, estaba tan emocionada que no leí toditos los detalles. Simplemente no es lo mismo cuando llegas y ves con tus propios ojos y dices: ¡AHHHH, ahora entiendo lo que dijeron en el papel!

Llegamos a la “estación” del lugar, que es donde te preparan para hacer rafting … ¡Pero no está justo al lado del río! Primero debes registrarte ahí, escuchar las instrucciones, te asignan a un guía, te pones tu chaleco salvavidas y luego nos llevan a todo el grupo y al equipo juntos en un autobús hacia el río, está a unos 10 minutos.

¿SE PUEDEN TOMAR FOTOS MIENTRAS SE HACE RAFTING?

Como soy fotógrafa, quería llevar al menos mi celular para tomar foticos y registrar al aventura, pero olvidé mi protector impermeable para el teléfono porque todo lo que lleves al barco SE MOJARÁ. Afortunadamente, tienen una tiendita con muchos productos que podrías necesitar, ¡realmente lo hacen conveniente!

Me conseguí una funda impermeable para celular que funcionó muy bien, tomé bastantes fotos durante el rafting, pero ¿adivinen qué? También ofrecen un paquete de fotos profesionales durante el viaje, todas las fotos mías que ves en este post son las que tomaron ellos, las puedes comprar al final de tu viaje por $40, te las entregan en un USB de lo más cuchi. Me ENAMORÉ de las fotos y las compramos de inmediato, me encanta cómo capturaron todos los momentos de nuestro viaje, ¡vale la pena!

¡RAFTING PARA NIÑOS DE 6 AÑOS EN ADELANTE!

Antes de llegar allí, los niños tenían un poco de miedo de ir, especialmente Maya, pero el límite mínimo de edad es de 6 años, así que yo confiaba en que Maya iba a estar bien, realmente es un rafting muy suave. En cada bote hay un guía que hace que todo el viaje sea tan divertido porque te enseñan cómo remar, te entretienen y te protegen.

El tiempo que pasamos en el río fue de aproximadamente una hora, hicimos una parada para sacar agua de los botes y varias paradas para nadar, ¡fue tan delicioso y refrescante nadar! Todos nosotros en el bote teníamos un remo, excepto Maya, ella solo se sentó y disfrutó. Cuando terminamos, el autobús viene y te recoge para volver a la estación. Allí puedes lavarte y ponerte la ropa seca.

Yo llegué a la estación con shores de bluejean y una franela y tenía mi traje de baño debajo, pero me quité la camisa la dejé en el carro y solo tenía mi traje de baño y los shores para el rafting. No me había llevado un cambio de shores secos, así que lo que recomiendo es llevar solo el traje de baño o la ropa que quieres mojar y un cambio de ropa seca en tu carro. Tienes que dejar todo lo que llevarás en tu carro antes de ir a hacer rafting, pero luego puedes sacarlo del carro y cambiarte, ¡trae toallas en tu carro también y aségurate de llevarte zapatos deportivos que se puedan mojar!

Tengo que decirles que les recomiendo muchísimo esta aventura para todas las familias, ¡VAYAN! si están buscando una aventura familiar de verano en California! El rafting en River’s End Rafting fue nuestra primera parada en nuestro viaje por carretera este verano, también fuimos a acampar en Sequoia, lo cual vendré a contarles otro día!
