If you visit San Felipe Mexico you have to stop by this amazing park Valle de los Gigantes.
The park features giant Cardon cactus, it’s located about a 2o minute drive south from San Felipe.
We went at the beginning of February which was after a huge rainy winter so there were little flowers everywhere! I think we were lucky because all the pictures I’ve seen before going didn’t have flowers!
The drive is easy, you can follow the only road south and then you’ll see the sign to your right, there will be a park warden there to meet you and you have to pay a fee to enter (about $10 per car, bring cash). The park is huge and if you have a 4×4 wheel car is better since you can go further in with your car, but if not, it’s not a big deal, you can park and walk.
We visited the park right before leaving San Felipe and I wished we went earlier or during the beginning of our stay because that way we would be more rested and with more patience and time to stay and wonder. So I recommend you stop early and rested!
The cacti are really GIANT! They are massively big and really amazing. I don’t have a good picture here that shows you how many of these big cacti are in the park but you can see more pictures online and get the whole idea adding to what I’m showing you here.
This is the desert so plan accordingly, bring tons of water, snacks for the kids that may get impatient and of course, your camera.
We only got really close to one cactus because we didn’t stay for long and the one we saw was full of graffiti and partly dead? (so sad), but it was so beautiful to see the bloomed desert. If you pay attention to all my photos you will see that some of them have a blue sky and other gray, it’s because a storm was coming!!
I really want to go back and do a special photoshoot during sunset, who wants to be my model? (I’m serious!)
PS: Also, you might want to bring toilet paper to use the bathrooms!
Si van de visita a San Felipe, Baja California deben ir obligadamente a este parque llamado Valle de los Gigantes.
Este es un parque con cactus gigantes llamados Cardones, está a unos 20 minutos al sur de San Felipe y ¡vale muuuucho la pena!
Nosotros fuimos a San Felipe principios de febrero, después de un invierno super lluvioso, ¡así que había una cantidad de florecitas por todas partes! Creo que tuvimos suerte porque todas las fotos que he visto en internet no tenían flores!
Es fácil de llegar, verás un aviso donde está la entrada y la carretera no tiene muchas cosas, cuando lleguen verán a una persona que es el que cuida y hay que pagar para entrar (alrededor de $10 por carro, traigan cash). El parque es enorme y puedes estacionar tu carro e irte a caminar aunque si tienes un vehículo 4×4 podrás llegar más lejos en carro.
No pudimos ver mucho porque lo hicimos el último día del viaje en nuestro camino de regreso y ya íbamos con el tiempo contado, pero nos hubiera gustado quedarnos más. Así que les recomiendo que vayan temprano y descansados.
Cuando digo gigantes es que así lo son, increiblemente INMENSOS! Aquí no les tengo una buena foto para que vean la cantidad de estos cactus que hay y admiren la inmensidad pero pueden ver más fotos en la internet para que se den una idea en conjunto con las que yo les traigo.
El parque está en pleno desierto, así que planifiquen para eso, lleven bastante agua y snacks para los niños que se inquietan rápido y porsupuesto, sus cámaras.
Nosotros estuvimos muy cerca de un solo cactus por estar medio apurados y el que vimos estaba lleno de graffiti (que triste), pero ver el desierto florido fue hermoso. Si se dan cuenta algunas fotos tienen el cielo azul y otras gris, y es que se venía la lluvia!!
La verdad quiero regresar a ese lugar y hacer una sesión de fotos especial durante la puesta de sol, ¿quién quiere ser mi modelo? (¡Lo digo en serio!)
PD: Les recomiendo también llevar papel higiénico para usar los baños!
