Our Christmas in pictures

Como estamos acostumbrando a tener la Navidad bi-cultural, celebramos con 2 cenas, una en la Nochebuena en la casa con cena Venezolana (Hallacas porque no pedimos el pan de jamón a tiempo pero comimos tequeños!) y abriendo los regalos. Por la mañana los niños abrieron regalitos de Santa y de el Niño Jesús, desayunamos y nos fuimos a San Diego con mis suegros a celebrar la otra Navidad con la otra cena (Jamón, puré de papas, etc) y abriendo más regalitos.

This is the time of the month were I’ll show you my pictures for the photography group. Every year in December the theme is Christmas, very convenient since it’s an everyday thing during that month.

So this year as I said here, I took a mini photography class for Christmas. I learned a LOT, specially lots of tips. Some of them I knew but they all definitely are helping me feel more secure when I take pictures.

Things like for example to set the table early in the day for Christmas dinner so you can have less stress and more light to take pictures before all the chaos starts! That really helped a lot cause I used to that at the last minute and that was no good. This time I was calmed and had more light. I took about 300 pictures of the table! Something I was kind of regretting at the editing moment but oh well, it was worth it, I got a couple of good ones…!

Adrian was upset about my mom’s place, he insisted her name isn’t Elvira, it’s Abu! Adrian estaba bravo con el nombre de mi mamá e insistía en que su nombre no es Elvira, es Abu!

Because we are doing the bi-cultural Christmas, we had 2 dinners, one Crhistmas Eve at home, we ate Venezuelan Hallacas (similar to tamales) and opened our gifts to each other that night and then the morning of Christmas the kids woke up to open their Santa and Baby Jesus gifts. Then we had breakfast and proceeded to our second celebration in San Diego with US dinner (Turkey, potatoes, etc) and of course opening more gifts.

Adrian was really excited with gifts this time, so much so that he was getting really grumpy if we waited more time to open them, so we decided to open gifts first and then eat!

During the moment of the event it’s still very hard for me to take pictures, I want to be in the moment instead of being behind the lense plus the light in both homes is so bad, and it doesn’t help that it’s almost always night already wehn we do most of the things, it gets dark at 4:30pm during winter. So next time we have to move I’m sure to look for the place that has the most light!!!

The truth is we had a very good Christmas and Holiday season and I’m a little sad that it’s over but also happy that a new year has started and it’s full of promises and great things for our family. Happy New Year again!!
