First day of Spanish Immersion School!

The day finally arrived! I can’t tell you enough how excited I am was, I almost couldn’t sleep the other night. I think I was probably more excited than Adrian. I realized I was more emotional than I thought last Friday when we went to the orientation and my eyes were watering listening to all the details and then I didn’t want to leave and I kept asking questions, I still felt a little disoriented but I guess that’s normal, there is so much to take in! I feel overwhelmed but happy!

This first day also puts an end to all the decisions that came beforehand, like looking for schools, then finally finding the Spanish immersion that we love and then waiting for his name to be picked. Then telling him about it and he wasn’t excited at all and little by little convincing him.

I was worried about the spanish cause he would even say “I hate Spanish, I don’t want to go to a Spanish school” but after seeing how well he did at the Spanish summer camps I know he is going to be excellent!

One thing I discovered about the whole back to school thing is that new school supplies empower the kids! We didn’t get much for Adrian, we don’t have a list yet but he did need a pair of shoes, socks and a backpack. He is into Mario Bros. a lot these days so he picked a Mario backpack, he got SO excited to go to school after that day! And I immediately remembered how I would get excited when I was a kid and my mom took us back to school shopping for all our supplies, I LOVED it and even though I was sad that summer was over I felt happy with my new erasers, pencil sharpeners and of course, my special notebooks wrapped in the most beautiful contact paper (can you tell I had designer blood already!).

So the first day Adrian was asking me if I knew were the school was and that please don’t get lost mami, he was very excited and didn’t seem nervous at all but me I was about to cry, tears of joy of course! Because here we are, almost 6 years after our baby was born, starting a new stage in our lives again, PLUS it is a dream that it can be in a full Spanish environment, I can’t believe it! We are very very thankful!

El día finalmente llegó! No les puedo explicar lo emocionada que estoy estaba, casi ni podía dormir la noche anterior, seguramente más emocionada que el mismo Adrian. Me di cuenta de tanta emoción el día en que tuvimos la orientación, el viernes pasado. Se me empezaron a aguar los ojos nada más de escuchar las indicaciones que daban, de ver su nombre en la lista, todo me daba una gran emoción y no me quería ir, seguía haciendo preguntas y más preguntas. Todavía me sentí medio desorientada después de ese diá pero creo que es normal, son muchas cosas nuevas al mismo tiempo y de todas maneras estoy feliz!

Este día también significa ponerle final y dejar atrás a muchas decisiones por las cuales pasamos, como buscar que colegios, encontrar finalmente el colegio de inmersión en español que nos encanta, aplicar, esperar a que fuera seleccionado, luego decirle que iba a empezar y convercerlo de que se emocionara porquito a poco.

Yo estaba un poco preocupada por el comienzo porque el me decía “odio el español y no quiero ir a un colegio de puro español” pero sabía que era un rechazo al cambio y además después de ver que tan bien le fué en los campamentos de español no dudé por un momento más que le va a ir excelente!

Una cosa que descubrí en todo este asunto del regreso a clases es que los útiles escolares dan un sentido de fortaleza y seguridad personal a los niños, se que suena exagerado pero es verdad! No le compramos muchos útiles a Adrian, no nos han dado lista todavía pero si necesitaba un morral, unos zapatos y unos pares de medias nuevos. El está enfiebrado con Mario Bros. ahora así que eligió un morral de Mario y se emocionó tanto con su morral que ya quería ir a clases! Yo inmediatamente me acordé de cuando era chiquita y mi mamá nos llevaba de compras para todos los útiles, cómo ME ENCANTABA! Y aunque estaba triste de que se acabaran las vacaciones tener mi zacapuntas, mi borra nueva, mis creyones y porsupuesto, mis cuadernos forrados con el papel contact más bonito que había (la sangre de diseñadora ya la traía!).

Así que ayer cuando estábamos en camino al colegio Adri estaba super pendiente y me decía que no me fuera a perder porfavor! El se veía emocionado pero tranquilo, no se notaba nervioso en cambio yo con los ojos aguados y apunto de llorar! Claro, de felicidad eso sí, ya que aquí estamos después de casi 6 años de haber nacido nuestro bebé, empezando una nueva etapa en nuestras vidas de nuevo, no lo puedo creer, además que pueda aprender todo en español! Que agradecidos estamos!
