Yes, the little baby of the house turned seven this year and we are all proud, excited and happy to celebrate her!

I know seven is still so little but she looks so big to me now. I went through a phase for weeks coming up before her birthday, I kept looking at photos and videos of the kids when they were babies, I was so nostalgic, and that to me was little!!!

I can’t believe how they grow in front of our own eyes. It’s really nice to have all those videos and photos that I take. And I discover how much I love every single bit of them, I don’t care if they are blurry or sideways or whatever, just being able to enjoy those little moments again is priceless.

Going through the videos I realized that I want to take more videos so I started doing that, not really high quality or edited videos, just tid-bits of our days here and there. Right now they seem so normal but I know in a couple of years they’re going to look as if they are gold.

It’s been a while since I don’t organize a big party for the kids’ birthdays at a park or at home where I can decorate and be more creative for them. I missed that and even though we decided to have Maya’s party at a ceramic painting place, we had a table available for any food and decor we wanted to bring, so I was able to have fun with that.

Maya wanted to have a Moana party so I shopped for supplies at Oriental Trading, I got other fun themed decorations, they have lots of things!! I also made almost all the food, I’m really tired of pizza for kid’s parties.

I tried to make finger food to make it easier, here is what I served:

• Different type of arepitas (spinach, carrots and regular) with 3 dips, sour cream, guacamole and cilantro cream
• Empanadas filled with grounded turkey and with cheese
• A bowl with snacks like pretzels, trail mix, plantain chips and corn nuts
• Little Jello cups <—These were a hit with the kids!!
• Fruit kebobs (with fun tiki skewers!)
• Cupcakes (I got them at Ralphs and printed out Moana cupcake toppers at home)
• Fruit punch that I made with orange juice, sparkling lime water and power fruit juice (I didn’t take a picture of the fruit punch but you can see the special umbrella straws to serve it!)

I think everybody liked the food, the most successful ones were the empanadas and the jello cups. Kids ate the jello cups quick, they came coming back for more and more.

I love that the place lets you bring whatever you want and there are no restrictions but they placed our table in an awful spot in front of some boxes, it looked like a storage area 🙁 🙁 and the photos suffered. But all in all the kids had fun, they got to choose and paint their ceramic and they even got to make a candle!

Mayita is very into crafts and painting so I think she loved it! Now on to the 8th year we go!!

¡UNA FIESTA DE MOANA PARA LOS 7 AÑOS DE MAYA!

 

Sí, la chiquitica de la casa ya cumplió siete años este año y todos estamos orgullosos, emocionados y felices de celebrarla!

Sé que siete todavía es chiquita pero ahorita me parece tan grande. Varias semanas antes de su cumpleaños me dió como una fase de pensarla cuando era bebé y “toddler”y me la pasé viendo fotos y videos de los dos cuando eran bebés (miren el par que les muestro aquí que belleza!!!), me puse bien nostálgica!!!

No puedo creer cómo crecen delante de nuestros propios ojos. Es realmente super chévere tener todos los videos y las fotos que tomo, y he re-descubierto lo mucho que me encanta ver cada uno de ellos, no me importa si son borrosos o de lado o lo que sea, sólo poder disfrutar de esos pequeños momentos de nuevo no tiene precio.

Viendo los videos me di cuenta de que quiero tomar más, así que comencé a hacer eso, no son videos de alta calidad o editados, sólo pequeños momentos de nuestros días aquí y allá. En este momento parecen tan normales, pero sé que en un par de años valdrán otro!

Hace tiempo que no organizo una gran fiesta mas o menos grande para los niños en un parque o en la casa donde puedo decorar y ser más creativa para ellos. Extraño eso y aunque decidimos tener fiesta de Maya en un lugar de pintar cerámica, había una mesa disponible para llevar cualquier comida y decorar lo que uno quisiera, así que me divertí un poquito con eso.

Maya quería una fiesta de Moana, así que compré cositas en la página Oriental Trading. Compré también cosas para decorar tipo Hawaiano ahí, tienen muchas cosas chéveres!! También hice casi toda la comida, estoy bien cansada de que en las fiestas de niños hay siempre pizza.

Traté de hacer la comida que fuera fácil de comer sin cubiertos, aquí está lo que serví:

• Arepitas de diferentes tipos (espinaca, zanahoria y normal) con 3 salsas, crema agria, guacamole y crema de cilantro
• Empanadas rellenas de pavo molido y de queso
• Un bowl con varios pasapalos tipo pretzeles, mezcla de nueces, platanitos y maíz tostado
• Vasitos de gelatina <— Estos fueron un éxito con los niños!
• Pinchos de frutas (con unos pinchos muy cuchis tipo Tiki)
• Cupcakes (los conseguí en Ralphs e imprimí los toppers de Moana de esta tienda en Etsy)
• Cóctel de jugos que he hize con jugo de naranja, agua esfervencente de limón y jugo de mezcla de arándanos (No le pude tomar una foto al ponche pero pueden ver los pitillos de paraguas que puse, me fascinaron!)

Creo a que todo el mundo le gustó la comida, lo que más gistó fueron las empanadas y las gelatinas. Los niños venían a cada rato por otro vasito de gelatina, volaron!

Me encanta que el lugar te permite traer lo que quieras y no hay restricciones pero nos pusieron la mesa en un lugar horrible en frente de unas cajas, parecía que estuviéramos en un almacén 🙁 🙁 y las fotos sufrieron con eso. Los niños se divirtieron bastante, cada quien eligió la cerámica que quería pintar e que incluso también hicieron una vela cada uno.

A Mayita le fascinan las manualidades y la pintura, así que creo que quedó muy muy contenta. Aquí vamos hacia el año Ocho, noooo!!!
