One of the kid’s favorite places to go is the Sunny Jim’s Cave in La Jolla (The Cave Store). I discovered it a couple of years ago when I started planning Mami Camp (the staycation week that I take off with them to visit places in San Diego).

It’s very cool because it seems like a secret place. You enter a store that just looks like an old store on the outside and may not attract so much attention, and through the store, you get to go in the cave!

The place is called “The Cave Store” as you seen in the photos. Today I want to leave you with some tips to visit Sunny Jim Cave with family:

• Admission costs $ 5 for adults and $ 3 for children.
• To get to the end of the cave, you have to go down 140 steps and, of course, go up the steps to return, so it is likely that the grandparents might not be able to go down. 
• The store where you enter has a little bit of everything, even snacks, you can stay there a good time looking at everything and maybe find a cute little souvenir.
• Parking around there is very hard to find, you may have to go around and around to find a place on the street or if not it’s better to park in a paid parking lot and walk. I would say that it’s better in a parking lot if grandparents come along, or if you don’t mind walking you can park further and walk to the cave and spend all day there in La Jolla.
• Right by the cave store, there are some walking paths and some pretty lookouts, you can pack a picnic or some snacks and sit for a while, it’s so pretty!
• An extra tip for photographers! Bring a tripod to take better photos inside

If you come to San Diego, don’t forget to visit this cave, it has its history, it has been there since 1902. And one super interesting fact that I love about the cave is that the name it was given: “Sunny Jim” is because the silhouette of the cave is very similar to a British product cartoon profile from years ago called Sunny Jim, you can check out the product here.

We have already gone twice but if it was for the kids, we would go many more times. It is a quite a fun little adventure when you are walking around La Jolla, check it out!

TIPS PARA VISITAR LA CUEVA SUNNY JIM EN FAMILIA

Una de las actividades faavoritas de los niños es ir a visitar la cueva Sunny Jim en La Jolla (The Cave Store). Yo las descubrí apenas hace un par de años cuando empezé a organizar Mami Camp (la semana de vacaciones que organizo para visitar sitios en San Diego con los niños).

Es muy chévere porque parece un secreto. Se le entra por una tienda que, si no sabes, se ve como una tienda antigua que a lo mejor no llama la atención.

La tienda se llama “The Cave Store”. Hoy les quiero dejar unos tips para irla a visitar en familia:

• La entrada cuesta $5 para adultos y $3 para niños.
• Para llegar al final de la cueva hay que bajar 140 escalones y porsupuestos subirlos para regresar, así que lo más probable es que los abuelos no puedan bajar.
• La tienda por donde se entra tiene de todo un poco, hasta snacks, se pueden quedar un buen tiempo registrando y a lo mejor encuentran un recuerdito lindo.
• El estacionamiento ahí es bien dificil de encontrar, hay que dar vueltas y vueltas para encontrar lugar en la calle o si no en un estacionamiento pagado. Yo diría que es mejor en un estacionamiento si van con los abuelos, o si no les importa caminar pueden parar mas lejos y caminar hasta la cueva y hacer todo día ahí en La Jolla.
• Por la parte de arriba de la tienda hay unos caminitos para pasear y unos miradores muy lindos, se pueden llevar para hacer picnic ahí arriba tambien.
• Un tip para fotógrafos: Llévense un trípode para tomar fotos adentro ya que es bien oscuro!

Si vienen a San Diego, no dejen de visitar esta cueva, tiene su historia, está allí desde 1902. Y una cosa super interesante que me encanta de la cueva es que el nombre que le pusieron “Sunny Jim” es porque la silueta de la cueva es igual a un producto británico de hace añales llamado así, lo pueden ver aquí.

Ya hemos ido dos veces pero si fuera por los niños, iríamos muchas veces más. Es una pequeña aventura cuando estén de paseo en La Jolla, anímense!!
