    Matemonstrous: A new show! {Giveaway}

    School starts next week for Adrian, yay! Finally! I am super excited to see what’s next for him, even though it’s only first grade, here is where it all starts right? And that’s where this new show Matemonstrous from Discovery Familia comes about (I briefly talked about it Matemonstrous last week here!). A group of very special creatures on a mission: to get kids interested in math at an early age. 
    Discovery Familia is a channel that strongly believes in the importance of start creating an affinity and love for STEM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) while kids are in their formative years. All their shows are educational and in Spanish.

    There are interesting facts about STEM careers and the US Hispanics. I didn’t know all this information like for example:

    • By 2040, Hispanics are expected to account for 30 percent of the U.S. population. However, Hispanic participation in STEM careers is way below desired levels.
    • According to data from the Higher Education Research Institute (2010), only 16 percent of Hispanic students who began college in 2004 as STEM majors completed a STEM degree by 2009, compared to 25 percent of non-Hispanic White students.

    I will have to be more aware and inspire more love and interest for some of the STEM skill, making them fun for the kids, at least it won’t be hard because I LOVE Math, did you know it was my favorite subject in school? Math!

    Matemonstrous will air from Monday to Friday at 5pm Eastern time – 2pm Pacific time, it started this past Monday August 26

    Check out a little preview of the show in the video below, Matemonstrous’ main characters Max, Lily and Gú, along with the children will learn to solve day to day problems using math skills. They will do counting, measuring, sizing, sorting and exploring shapes and patterns.

    Along with the show, during the programming it will include informative shorts: Back to School with Jeannette Torres, in which Jeannette, an expert in early childhood education and the network’s official brand ambassador shares useful tips for easing the transition and returning to routine.

    Ya Adrian empieza el colegio la semana que viene, yey!!! Finalmente! Estoy emocionada de ver que es lo que va a aprender ahora, ya se que es sólo 1er grado pero aquí es donde todo empieza no? Y ahí es donde viene el nuevo show Matemonstrous de Discovery Familia (Ya les había hablado brevemente de este show aquí hace como una semana). El show tiene un grupo de criaturas con una misión muy clara: despertar en los niños el interés por la matemática desde una temprana edad.

    Discovery Familia es un canal que cree en la importancia de incentivar en nuestros niños el amor por las carreras STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas) desde temprana edad. Todos sus shows son educativos y en español.


    Hay datos muy interesantes relacionados con las carreras STEM y los hispanos en Estados Unidos. Yo no sabía acerca de esto, datos como por ejemplo:
    • Se estima que para el 2040 los hispanos representaremos el 30% de la población de Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, la participación de los hispanos en carreras STEM está muy por debajo de los niveles deseados
    • Según datos del Instituto de Investigaciones de Educación Superior (2010), sólo el 16% de los estudiantes hispanos que comenzaron carreras STEM en 2004 obtuvieron sus títulos universitarios en 2009, comparado con el 25% de los estudiantes blancos (no hispanos).

    Tendré que estar más pendiente e inspirar el amor y el interés por las destrezas STEM, haciéndolas más divertidas para los niñitos, no creo que sea dificil con las matemáticas porque a mi me ENCANTA, saben cuál era mi materia favorita? Las matemáticas!

    Matemonstrous se emitirá de lunes a viernes a las 5pm ET – 2pm PT, empezó este lunes 26 de agosto.


    Pueden ver un poquito del show en el video arriba, los protagonistas Max, Lily y Gú, muestran a los niños que todo puede resolverse haciendo uso de la matemática y, en cada episodio, los invita a explorar el mundo de los cálculos, cuentas, mediciones y formas geométricas.
    Discovery Familia también presentará spots temáticos y cápsulas informativas De regreso a la escuela con Jeannette Torres, donde Jeannette, experta en educación temprana y embajadora oficial del canal, compartirá útiles consejos para hacer más fácil la transición de volver a la rutina.
