Potty Training follow up

Here is some of my experience after potty training. Overall it has been great but it is definitely another new stage of parenting with new challenges.

-Sometimes cleaning dirty underwear is worse than changing diapers (Imagine what type I’m referring to!).

-Going to public bathrooms is fun for him. Not so fun for me when it’s 3 times in a row and he wants to do everything by himself even though if he can’t.

-Charts work like a charm. I made up a chart for going poo and he loves it. He sometimes poos in his underwear and we don’t know why but he’s much better now. He gets a sticker every time he goes in the toilet and when the chart is full he gets a surprise. He gets so excited about this, I didn’t know the wonders!

-The most important one: Rinsing and washing dirty sheets and underwear almost every day is not fun. And this has to do with the fact that Adrian pees his bed a lot. We’ve tried many things, we follow the logical rules like not giving him much liquids 2 hours before bed, he goes pee right before bed and we tell him to let us know even if it’s the middle of the night.
These have not worked, I feel that he has a small bladder and that he has deep sleep.

Obviously he doesn’t do this on purpose because he doesn’t like it and almost all the time calls me to change him at the middle of the night.

I’ve tried to wake him up every night and take him to the bathroom, it worked for a couple of times but he gets very upset and starts screaming most of the times and I also get tired of waking up every night for this.

So for now we still try not to show any negativity towards him when he pees and when he doesn’t we get excited and praise him. I have read a lot and it seems that it can go on for a while but it will end at some point, so I will keep positive that this will happen.

This last week it has been better already, he even woke me up at the middle of the night telling me he had to go! That was huge!!

-I still feel so proud! It’s very very rewarding knowing that your baby is really a big boy now and that you helped him through this, it feels great!

Aquí van mis experiencias después de entrenar a Adrian a ir al baño , en general ha sido muy buena pero definitivamente es otra etapa de ser padre que tare nuevos retos y novedades.

-Muchas veces limpiar interiores es peor que limpiar pañales (Imagínense lo que tienen!)

-Ir a baños públicos es de lo más divertido para el. No tanto para mi cuando me dice que quiere ir 3 veces seguidas y lo que quiere es tocar todo el por su cuenta sin ayuda. Paciencia, paciencia y más paciencia!

-Los diagramas son una ayuda impresionante. Le hice un diagrama para ayudarlo a hacer pupú y le fascina. Algunas veces se hace en sus interiores, no sabemos bien porqué pero ya ha progresado muchísimo.

Cada vez que hace en la poceta le ponemos una calcomanía en el diagrama hasta que lo completa y se gana una sorpresa. Se emociona mucho, la verdad no sabía que buena ayuda son los diagramas!!

-La más importante: Remojar o lavar ropa y sábanas sucias casi todos los días no es nada divertido. Y esto es porque Adrian se hace pipí en la cama bastante veces. Hemos tratado muchas cosas, seguimos las reglas lógicas como no darle mucho líquido por lo menos 2 horas antes de dormir, siempre hace pipí antes de ir a dormir y siempre le decimos que nos avise a media noche si tiene que ir. No han funcionado mucho, siento yo que el tiene una vejiga chiquita y además el sueño bien pesado.

Obviamente el no lo quiere hacer a propósito porque no le gusta cada vez que pasa y me llama cuando está mojado llorando.

He tratado de levantarlo a medianoche para ir al baño y funcionó un par de veces pero después se puso muy bravo cada vez que lo levantaba y empezaba a llorar y a gritar y aparte yo también me cansé de levantarme todas las noches a hacer eso.

Por ahora lo que hacemos es no mostrarnos negativos con respecto al asunto y cuando amanece sequito lo alabamos y nos emocionamos.

Esta semana pasada ha habido un pequeño progreso, hasta se levantó a medianoche diciéndome que quería hacer pipí!! Que emoción!!

-Todavía me siento orgullosísima! De verdad que se siente super gratificante saber que tu bebé ya es un niñito grande y que tu lo ayudaste a pasar por eso!
