This Spanish summer camp was excellent!
This is the second summer camp Adri has gone to this summer, here you can read about the first summer camp.
I stayed for a little bit at the camp some of the days to take pictures after I left him and I almost felt like hanging out for the whole day to see EVERYTHING they did. Adrian was fascinated since the minute he got there until de last day of his camp. He would always say: Don't worry mami I'll be good and I'll have fun! LOL!
And it's not for nothing, this spanish camp promises a fun and engaging approach through the use of music, games, arts and crafts, literature, outdoor activities and field trips. And I would add that kids do all this all without even noticing that they are learning Spanish. Adrian never even mentioned the Spanish but of course I noticed, every day we arrived all the teachers would say Buenos días! and it was full spanish immersion!
They did lots of Spanish learning work, everyday they handed me the work Adrian did, plus some crafts. They were divided in groups depending on ages and amount of Spanish they knew. One day a little boy was even translating to English by himself to the other kids that didn't know.
One of things that I liked the best is the location (San Diego Chess Club at Balboa Park), they can walk to all the museums and even to the zoo. They did a field trip EVERY DAY (museum, park or zoo) and afterwards they would do an activity or craft related to their visit. My favorite was a reproduction of the drawings of Altamira caves in Spain that they saw at the Museum of Man. They traced it with a projector and then painted it, very nice!! (see photo below).
But that's not all, Adrian's Spanish started to come out, YES! Since the very first day that I picked him up he started to tell me all about his days with lots of Spanish words in between, I noticed!! And of course all the stories he heard were in Spanish so it was harder for him to tell them to me in English as usual.
At home for example he wanted to ask for water and he would say it all in Spanish, this is impressive cause he didn't do it at all I am very impressed how just one week has him changed!
If you live here in San Diego I super recommend this spanish summer camp. So much for them to do and learn plus the teachers are great and I guarantee you that the kids will enjoy everyday and will learn spanish almost without realizing, definitely full immersion!
