This week we made a day trip to visit Universal Studios Hollywood and check out what’s new during Summer.

Last time we went was during the Christmas season so there are several new and fun things to check out. I made a list for you plus an extra tip for when you visit the park as a family!

1. First things first we visited the new DreamWorks Theatre featuring the movie “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest”. The movie is a multi-sensory attraction, the seats move, you feel water effects, sound effects, the whole theater becomes part of the story, it’s awesome and I recommend it 100%!

2. Second, around the same area, you can meet Po, Tigress and Mr. Ping, being this last one or MOST FAVORITE! He talks to you and it’s just so funny, I want to go again!

3. There is also a Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop where you can enjoy his authentic Asian fare and a selection of hot and cold Asian beverages.

4. Next, at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are new lunchtime items at the Three Broomsticks restaurant plus the Butterbeer ice cream. We tried the ice cream and it was very sweet and had chocolate too. I think I still like the drink better.

5. Adrian brought his wand because there are two new spells to cast, one that’s called the Incendio which makes a chimney fire up and the Alohomora unlocking door spell!

6. The Jurassic Park ride is going away on September 3rd, they are making a new one called Jurassic World ride, we love to watch it from the outside cause the kids (plus Derek) loved to get wet! I think that’s pretty fun during the summer to able to do that.

7. My very favorite area down there is the Raptor Encounter, and this summer they have Blue, one of the most popular velociraptors from the Jurassic World franchise, I think this is such a well-done attraction, we always have fun here as a family.

8. New Hello Kitty store! They offer cute Hello Kitty and friends items. Maya’s favorite was the Hello Kitty headbands you can mix and match the bow colors you want., and then we got to take a photo with Hello Kitty!

9. We enjoyed The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle, it’s good to be around the area about an hour before the show then you will have a space to see the lights nicely. Maya and Adrian rode the Flight of the Hippogriff coaster about 5 times before the lights!!

10. Last thing on the list is not something physical you can find at the park, it’s my personal tip when visiting an amusement park like Universal Studios.

—>TIP: Remember to give yourself and each family member their own space<— This, so you can all enjoy the rides and attractions together better. Let me explain…

…At the beginning of our day the kids and me started to fight about everything, one wanted to go here, the other one didn’t, and I was constantly bothering them to help me with photos and we all ended being upset. I decided to take a time-out myself and sat alone for a little bit, that helped me out a lot, and then after a while, we ended up having a great time and not fighting.

I think that when all the family is put under such overstimulation we all react differently and the results might not be as we all expect. So I would give us some time before we arrive next time to all of us breathe and share together our intentions for the day, remind everybody what we’re there for and so on. It might sound crazy but it will make a huge difference!

EXTRA TIP: If you don’t have an express pass keep in mind the lines during summer are super long but they might get shorter in the afternoon, this happened to us!! So if you get there during noon, no worries, you’ll still have plenty of time to check out rides because the long summer days and the park closes at 10pm!

LO NUEVO EN UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ESTE VERANO

 

Esta semana nos fuimos un día a visitar Universal Studios Hollywood a ver lo nuevo de este verano.

La última vez que fuimos fue durante la temporada de Navidad, así que hay varias cosas nuevas y chéveres que ver. Hice una listica para ustedes y le agregué un tip extra para cuando visiten el parque con su familia.

1. Lo primero fue entrar al nuevo teatro DreamWorks a ver la película “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest”. La película es una atracción multisensorial, los asientos se mueven, se sienten efectos de agua, efectos de sonido, todo el teatro se convierte en parte de la película, es impresionante ¡lo recomiendo al 100%!

2. En segundo lugar, alrededor de la misma área, pueden conocer a Po, Tigress y Mr. Ping, ¡este último fue NUESTRO FAVORITO! Él habla con uno y es muy cómico, ¡quiero ir a verlo otra vez!

3. También está el restaurant de fideos de Mr. Ping donde pueden comer su auténtica comida asiática y una selección de bebidas asiáticas frías y calientes.

4. Despues, en The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, hay platillos nuevos para el almuerzo en el restaurante Three Broomsticks, una de las cosas nuevas es el helado Butterbeer. Probamos el helado aunque a mi me pareció muy dulce y también tiene chocolate. Creo que todavía me gusta más la bebida fría Butterbeer.

5. Adrian trajo su varita mágica porque hay dos hechizos nuevos, uno que se llama Incendio que hace que la chimenea se encienda y otro que es el hechizo de la puerta Alohomora.

6. El ride de Jurassic Park lo van a quitar el 3 de septiembre, lo reemplazarán con uno nuevo llamado Jurassic World, a nosotros nos encanta verlo desde afuera porque los niños (y  Derek) se paran ahí a mojarse! En el verano, poder hacer eso es lo máximo!

7. Mi área favorita es el Raptor Encounter, y este verano tienen a Blue, uno de los velociraptors más populares de la franquicia de Jurassic World, creo que es una atracción tan bien hecha, siempre nos divertimos ahí todos juntos.

8. ¡Hay una nueva tienda de Hello Kitty! Venden porsupuesto bastantes cositas de Hello Kitty y sus amigos. Lo que a Maya más le gustó fueron unos cintillos de Hello Kitty que tienen diferentes lacitos de colores para escoger y combinar. ¡Y después una foto con Hello Kitty afuera de la tienda!

9. Disfrutamos de las luces del castillo Hogwarts en la noche; yo les recomiendo estar cerca de la zona como una hora antes del espectáculo, así tendrán un huequito para ver las luces sin problema. ¡Maya y Adrián se montaron en la montaña rusa del Vuelo del Hippogriff unas 5 veces antes de las luces!

10. Lo último en la lista no es algo que ver en el parque, es mi tip personal cuando visiten un parque de diversiones como Universal Studios.

—> TIP: Recuerden darse su propio espacio ustedes y a cada miembro de la familia<— Esto, para que todos puedan disfrutar mejor del parque y las atracciones. Déjenme explicarles…

… Al comenzar nuestro día en el parque, los niños y yo empezamos a pelear por todo, uno quería ir aquí, el otro allá, y yo constantemente pidiéndoles que me ayudaran bien con las fotos, total, todos terminamos molestos. Decidí tomarme un “time-out” y me senté sola un rato, eso me ayudó mucho, y luego de un tiempito me di cuenta que la terminamos pasando bien y sin pelear más.

Creo que cuando toda la familia está bajo tanta sobreestimulación, todos reaccionamos de manera diferente y es posible que los resultados no sean los que esperábamos.  Así que me daría un poco de tiempo antes de llegar la próxima vez para que todos respiremos y compartamos nuestras intenciones para el día, que nos recordemos entre todos por qué estamos allí y todo eso. ¡Puede sonar medio raro, pero me parece que hará una gran diferencia!

TIP ADICIONAL: Si no tienes un pase “express”, tengan en cuenta que las colas durante el verano son muy largas (tipo 1 hora a 2 horas!), pero se pueden poner más cortas por la tarde, ¡esto nos pasó a nosotros! Así que si llegas allí al mediodía, no te preocupes, todavía tendrás tiempo de sobra para ir a varios rides porque los días de verano son laaaargos y el parque cierraa a las 10pm!
