Pumpkin carving has been a tradition in this household every Halloween for a long time now. I love to do it and I still remember the first times I did it, it was crazy and a little hard, I think I needed all these tips for pumpkin carving I’ll be telling you today!

This time we decided to invite a friend and make it a little pumpkin carving party. I’ve never been to one so if you have one, please invite us!!

So here are the pumpkin party ideas and tips I came up with:

1. Have lots of pumpkins available. Just in case you or somebody else has extra time or messes up a pumpkin, they can start another without a problem.

2. Have some pumpkins cleaned and seeded before the party starts. This can alleviate some of the waiting time for younger kids that are always so impatient to start carving their designs on the pumpkin. Although, on the contrary, taking the seeds and guts out of the pumpkin is one of the easiest activities that little kids can enjoy doing instead of carving (the ones that are too little to use the carving tools, aka: Maya and Adrian).

 

 

3. Use Pumpkin carving kits. Now this might seem like a dumb tip but when I started carving pumpkins I didn’t know better and all we used was kitchen knifes! This is a no-no and it doesn’t make it easier, it’s actually safer to use the little carving tools. After that one time I started to use the pumpkin carving kits and they are awesome. I’ve seen this brand, Pumpkin Masters, grow and I’m amazed. They have LOTS of fun tools and lots of cool templates to use.

4. Have a variety of carving kits available. There are so many different types of carving kits now, some of the ones we used from Pumpkin Masters are: •Decorating Punches, •Surface Carving Kit, •Kids Carving Kit. And they have more! One for every taste! So easy to find everywhere too: The grocery store, the drug store, Target and Walmart!

5. Serve a spooky themed Halloween snack and/or drink. I didn’t have time to set this up but I really wanted to! After all I’ve been working on some cool Halloween snacks lately and there are so many Halloween ideas out there!

 

6. Have other necessary extra tools to have available: Markers to draw some of templates, big bowls to empty the guts and seeds, plastic bags to dump them, a table cover, tape to attach patterns and LED lights to light the pumpkins. Oh and for the decorative punches templates you might need a kitchen mallet, that helped me out a lot because the punching those designs needs strength!

7. Tip for cleaning the remainder marker off the pumpkin: Sometimes the holes or the crayons won’t work and a permanent marker is a solution but it leaves marks, so I discovered that they can come off using the magic eraser, super easy!

I could continue with more and more pumpkin carving ideas and tips but I think these are the best ones. The kids had so much fun and they are excited with their pumpkins. Enjoy your parties and your creations!

IDEAS Y TIPS PARA UNA FIESTA DE TALLAR CALABAZAS

Tallar calabazas ha sido una tradición de nosotros todos los años en Halloween. A mi me encanta hacerlo y todavía me acuerdo de la primera vez que lo hice, fué medio dificil, la verdad creo que yo en ese momento necesitaba estos tips que les voy a dar!

Esta vez decidimos invitar a un amigo y hacer una pequeña reunioncita para tallarlas, yo nunca he ido a una fiesta de estas así que si alguien hace alguna, invítenme!

Aquí les van mis ideas y tips para una fiesta de tallar calabazas:

1. Ten disponible bastantes calabazas. En caso que una persona tenga más tiempo de hacer más de una calabaza o tengan un error en el diseño que estaban haciendo.

2. Limpia algunas calabazas por dentro y sácales las semillas antes de la fiesta. Esto puede ayudar a los niños pequeño que no pueden esperar tanto tiempo para ver sus diseños en sus calabazas. Aunque también, el trabajo de sacar las semillas es una de las cosas que los niños chiquitos pueden ayudar a hacer (especialmente los que no pueden usar las herramientas de tallar como Adri y Maya).

3. Usa kits para tallar. Esto les parecerá tonto pero la primera vez que nosotros tallamos calabazas no sabíamos ni como y usamos cuchillos normales de cocina. Y esto no se debe hacer! Es que es hasta peligroso, y a nosotros se nos dificultó tallar con ellos, es mucho mejor hacerlo con las herramientas especiales para tallar. Después de esa vez empezamos a comprar los kits que tienen de todo y desde ahí hasta ahora los seguimos usando. Yo he visto a esta marca Pumpkin Masters crecer y crecer y ahora tienen tanta variedad de diseños y herramientas, me parece muy chévere!

4. Prepara la fiesta con una variedad de kits para tallar. Hay tantos y tantos hoy en día, alguno de los kits de Pumpkin Masters que nosotros usamos fueron estos: •Perforaciones decorativas, •Kit para tallar solo la superficie exterior, •Kit para niños. Y tienen muchos más, uno para cada gusto! Aparte son bien fáciles de encontrar en todos lados, en el automercado, en las droguerías, en Target y en Walmart.

5. Sirve bebidas y meriendas especiales de Halloween. Yo no tuve tiempo de hacerlas para la fiesta pero si quería! Después de todo he estado trabajando mucho en ideas de comidas para Halloween ultimamente y hay tantas ideas por todos lados!

6. Ten a disposición otras herramientas que van a necesitar para tallar las calabazas: Marcadores para trazar los diseños, boles grandes para poner las partes de adentro de las calabazas, bolsas de plásticos para botar lo de adentro, cubierta para la mesa, teipe para pegar los diseños y luces LED para prender las calabazas. Ah y si hacen el diseño que es con abre-huecos especiales, usen un mazo de cocina, les ayudará porque hay que tener mucha fuerza para hacer esos!

7. Tip especial para limpiar el resto que deja el marcador en la calabaza: A veces no se transfiere fácil el diseño con creyón o con la herramienta especial que traen los kits y hay que usar marcador permanente pero deja marquitas luego de tallar el diseño, yo descubrí que usar la magic eraser, super fácil!

Podría continuar y continuar con más ideas pero creo que estas son las mejores. Los niños se divirtieron mucho y estaban muy emocionados con sus calabazas terminadas. Disfruten sus fiestas y de sus creaciones!
